Thomas Langer obtained his Ph.D. from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. After postdoctoral work at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center New York and at the University of Munich he was appointed as a professor at the University of Cologne. Thomas Langer’s research focuses on mitochondrial proteases, their physiological functions and regulation in ageing and age-associated diseases, such as neurodegenerative disorders or cardiomyopathies. His group studies molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial quality control and the role of proteases in the regulation of mitochondrial dynamics, membrane biogenesis and lipid trafficking within mitochondria.
